What Do I Need To Get Started?
Before you can start having professional driving lessons you need to be 17 years of age (or over) and hold a UK provisional driving licence.
A provisional driving licence costs £50 and an application form (D1) can be obtained from a post office or by post from the DVLA. Or you can use the Directgov online payment service to apply for your provisional licence.
You can apply for a UK provisional licence up to 3 months before your birthday so that you are organized and ready to go!
Driving Tuition
The DSA recommends around 45 hours of professional training in conjuction with about 22 hours of private practice. The DSA also say that pupils who combine professional instruction with private practice are also more successful on test. Private practice with a friend or relative can be an advantage if done alongside professional tuition. Just be aware that the person who accompanies you on your private practice must be over the age of 21 and have held their full UK driving licence for a minimum of 3 years.
To obtain a full UK driving licence you need to take, and pass, 2 DSA regulated tests :-
You must pass the theory and hazard perception test before you can take your practical test.
All of my lessons are given on a one-to-one basis in a current model Skoda Fabia, which provides a relaxing and welcoming environment for your tuition and is fitted with air-conditioning for our comfort. What better way to learn and practice your new skills!
